ESPN Page 2 recently had a great feature entitled From Springfield to Cooperstown, which made a startling discovery:
The nine legendarily lucky Major League Baseball players who appeared in the memorable Homer at the Bat episode from Season Three claim that all these years later, Hall of Fame caliber careers behind them, they’re still often recognized solely because of their appearances on the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant’s softball team.
I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised at this, but I still am.
By the way, Homer at the Bat is one of my all-time favorite episodes. I couldn’t make this post without adding the video montage at the end of the episode, with the song Talkin’ Softball playing in the background. Enjoy:
