Photographer goes to great lengths (depths?) for the shot
I have to give props to this photo, but I have to say that what the photographer went through to get it might be a bit much:
Wildlife photographer Greg du Toit was so determined to capture the perfect image of wild lions drinking he sat submerged in their watering hole for three months. The defiant photographer had endured a year of failed attempts at getting the right picture after building hides and digging trenches near the animals’ drinking spot. In a final desperate effort, the 32-year-old decided to take the plunge and climb into the murky pool with his camera and ended up contracting several tropical diseases.
There are more details in the article on the various diseases that du Toit came down with; that’s way too scary for me. One of the commenters pointed out that there are protective suits that he could have worn to prevent contracting many of the diseases…

Days Get Shorter Because of Chilean Earthquake
66.6 exajoules of energy were expended during the recent Chilean earthquake.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory says that days will now be shorter because the quake shifted Earth’s axis by three inches. The change—which can only be measured thanks to computer models—will result in days that are 1.26 microseconds shorter than before.
