Around the world in 80 seconds. Directed by Romain Pergeaux & Alex Profit. A project done in only 3 weeks. This route is a tribute to the famous Jules Verne’s book Le tour du monde en 80 jours. Viral Ad of the Day: To promote yesterday’s release of its latest Chrome beta, Google pits the speed of its web browser against a potato, sound waves, and lightning.

Google Chrome is very fast, but for me Mozilla Firefox still has a slight edge due to some of the extensions that I’ve grown accustomed to.  Chrome is very quickly picking up the slack, though, as I’ve found good (or even better) replacements for many of my favorite extensions…

Apparently BP is far more culpable in the handling of the Gulf Coast oil spill than many think, and to add fuel to the fire, they were also the main culprit in the Exxon Valdex disaster. Asshats.

“[C]ontaining spilled oil is really quite simple and easy […] but not at all cheap. And BP is cheap. Deadly cheap.” Investigative journalist Greg Palast (wiki), who investigated the Exxon-Valdez spill, on how it and the Gulf spill could have been managed: “Slick Operator: The BP I’ve Known Too Well”

And in a related bit of ick from Wired: “Toxic Oil Dispersant Used in Gulf Despite Better Alternative”
