Two spaces after a period: Why you should never, ever do it.
I always type two spaces after a period. Â I’m used to it, Â and I’ve always thought that it was correct. Â Well, apparently it isn’t correct, confirmed by typographers and style guides alike. Â The linked article cites several reasons and arguments, but apparently it is primarily a matter of aesthetics. Â On that score I’m not sure that I see it, but I guess I’ll at least pay attention to my “type crimes” and consider switching, although it definitely won’t feel right (as evidenced by the fact that I couldn’t even switch while writing this post)…

Double-Click a Tab to Shrink Microsoft Office’s Ribbon Toolbar
Back when Microsoft 2007 made its debut, and cries about the thick (if potentially useful) “ribbon” interface arose, we shared a tip on minimizing the ribbon with a right-click. In newer versions, you can double-click your current tab, or press Ctrl+F1 on your keyboard to shrink down the ribbon to a minimalist strip. There’s also a small downward-facing arrow on the title bar you can click with your mouse. Update: Our readers note that this trick works on most “ribboned” Microsoft apps, including Wordpad.Â
