I always type two spaces after a period.  I’m used to it,  and I’ve always thought that it was correct.  Well, apparently it isn’t correct, confirmed by typographers and style guides alike.  The linked article cites several reasons and arguments, but apparently it is primarily a matter of aesthetics.  On that score I’m not sure that I see it, but I guess I’ll at least pay attention to my “type crimes” and consider switching, although it definitely won’t feel right (as evidenced by the fact that I couldn’t even switch while writing this post)…

Back when Microsoft 2007 made its debut, and cries about the thick (if potentially useful) “ribbon” interface arose, we shared a tip on minimizing the ribbon with a right-click. In newer versions, you can double-click your current tab, or press Ctrl+F1 on your keyboard to shrink down the ribbon to a minimalist strip. There’s also a small downward-facing arrow on the title bar you can click with your mouse. Update: Our readers note that this trick works on most “ribboned” Microsoft apps, including Wordpad.
