The Ice Girls“The NBA’s Lakers have the Laker Girls. The NFL’s Dallas Cowboys have the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. So what’s the NHL’s answer to these bevy of beauties? The New York Islanders’ ‘Ice Girls.’” I for one would like to say it’s about damn time!

i used to believe is a great site allowing people to submit things they thought or believed as a child that they’ve since learned were not exactly true, to say the least. 🙂

The World News Map has a somethat rudimentary graphical map view of current headlines. It could use improvement, but it’s still worth a look.

Hello Readers of Drikoland, I am the newest guest columnist here so let me introduce myself. My name is Czar, although some folks also call me Steve, Tex, or any of several other names that I won’t mention. I used to live the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado, but all that changed one fateful day nearly one year ago. I was on my way to work at my miserable job at an Internet service provider when a team of assailants suddenly accosted me. I was kidnapped, tied up with duct tape, and thrown in the back of a ‘93 Tercel. I had no idea where we were going, but the next thing I knew, I heard a siren and the car stopped. A Texas Ranger opened the trunk, found me there, and proceded to write me a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. We got to Memphis, Tennesee, where I got to see Graceland before they threw me back in the trunk. They finally let me go somewhere in Suburban Maryland, and I’ve been stuck here ever since. Okay, I might have made up a few details. The Tercel might not have been a ’93. And the team of assailants might have actually been migrant network consultants on their way from San Jose. It’s amazing how many of them you can fit in a Tercel.

Anyway, just in case I have a tiny bit of credibility left, let’s do some blogging. The America’s Cup races, which are normally held every three or four years, have begun. The AC is the world’s oldest trophy (at least the oldest that’s still up for grabs) and also represents the longest winning streak in the history of any sport. The USA held it for 132 years until we lost it to the Aussies in 1983. Since then it has changed hands several times, and is currently held by New Zealand. This year the USA has three different challengers, along with Sweden, Great Britain, Italy, France, and Switzerland. The Swiss, believe it or not are one of the strongest challengers, but the team from Seattle is the current favorite. The best thing about them is they are working with environmental activists to bring attention to the health of the world’s oceans. Compare to the French, who are sponsored by Areva, a conglomerate of nuclear companies. The French have not yet won a race. C’est la vie.
