OK, I may be an aerospace engineer geek, but after visiting the Gallery of Fluid Mechanics you have to agree that their description is accurate, whether you understand the phenomena or not:
One of the most attractive features of fluid mechanics is the beauty of the flows one encounters. Whether one is observing vortex streets, the potential flow around an airfoil or body, shock refraction or diffraction, or waves breaking on a beach the aesthetic appeal of fluid mechanics is impossible to deny.
I’m particularly drawn to the aviation portions of the gallery, but it wasn’t hard to find compelling images in almost all portions of the site. Pretty damn cool…
