World’s Largest Photo?

The AP reports that “What is believed to be the world’s largest photo was successfully created in a hangar that had been converted into a massive camera at the former El Toro Marine Corps base:”

About 30 people showed up Wednesday to see the fuzzy, 28-by-108 foot black-and-white image taken by six photographers from the nonprofit Legacy Project. The photo, taken Saturday, shows the control towers, palm trees and a portable toilet.

The photo was created using the centuries-old principle of camera obscura after a gumball-size hole was opened in the hangar’s wall, allowing a tiny beam of light to enter.

The image then appeared upside down and flipped left to right on a sheath of light-sensitive fabric the length of one-third of a football field and about three stories tall.

The cloth was exposed for 35 minutes. The photographers and 60 volunteers developed the image by moving the fabric into an enormous, 1-foot-deep tray.

Pretty cool stuff, especially considering how they made use of the hangar before it was razed…

The Top 10 Unintentionally Worst Company URLs

Independent Sources offers its list of the top 10 unintentionally worst company URLs:

Everyone knows that if you are going to operate a business in today’s world you need a domain name. It is advisable to look at the domain name selected as other see it and not just as you think it looks. Failure to do this may result in situations such as the following (legitimate) companies who deal in everyday humdrum products and services but clearly didn’t give their domain names enough consideration.

What were those companies thinking?!

The Office Webisodes

The Office is showing weekly “webisode” videos of The Accountants trying to figure out how $3000 went missing from their books. So far, the first two have been pretty funny.

Unfortunately, these videos don’t seem to work with Firefox unless you install the IE Tab extension, which is actually quite useful, as it basically allows any tab to act magically like Internet Explorer. You can even set up certain domains to always open in “IE Tabs,” which almost totally eliminates the need for me to use Internet Explorer (woo hoo!).

Limbaugh Redefined

In a move that almost eclipses a previous grass roots effort to popularize a somewhat sordid term for “Santorum,” Adult Video News is proposing that “the adult industry can help the morally-challenged radio talker [Rush Limbaugh] by henceforth referring to any hard-on helper, pill or injection, as ‘limbaugh’” (NSFW link to an adult site), claiming that “It’s the least the adult industry can do to pay tribute to one of the biggest jack-offs ever to grace America’s airwaves.” ROTFL… 🙂

South Park To (Finally) Re-Air “Trapped In The Closet”

South ParkYahoo reports that “Comedy Central is finally respecting Cartman’s authoritay”:

One week after South Park’s controversial Trapped in the Closet episode garnered an Emmy nomination [woo hoo!], and nearly four months after it was abruptly pulled from rotation on the cable net, Comedy Central has finally acquiesced and will allow the Scientology-skewering episode back on the air.

In a previous rant I went off on Tom Cruise’s alleged brazen efforts to have the re-airing of Trapped in the Closet pulled, so I’m extremely happy to hear about this. Still, it shouldn’t have taken an Emmy nomination for Comedy Central to grow some balls…

Pac-Man Cereal Commercials

After viewing the Atari Pole Position commercial I posted about a couple of days ago, I got fished into related YouTube videos and watched a whole bunch of other commercials. Of them, I had to mention this Pac-Man Cereal Commercial (removed; d’oh!) and this “sequel” (YouTube videos) that includes a new Ms. Pac-Man marshmallow (!). Revel in the cheesiness of the commercials, especially the painfully awful attempt to indoctrinate a new Pac-Man dance into impressionable kids’ psyches. 😉

The Zidane Headbutt

If for some reason you haven’t heard about The Zidane Headbutt that occurred in the 2006 World Cup Final and quite possibly played a big part in its outcome, then kottke.org has a nice round-up of information for your perusal.

Of course, that wasn’t the main reason I’m posting this, but I figured I should provide some background. 😉 Anil Dash took the time to “sift through dozens of the best/worst Zidane-related animations online,” combining them into a pretty funny video montage. Some are better than others, but there are some real gems in there…
