Cal Ripken Headed To Cooperstown
Receiving 98.5% of the votes, the third-highest margin in history, Baltimore Oriole Cal Ripken was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today; Tony Gwynn was also voted in with 97.6% of the votes. Many in Baltimore were hoping for a unanimous ballot to further validate the Iron Man’s contributions to the sport, but it was unfortunately not to be, partly because some voters cast blank ballots in protest over the “‘Roids Rage Age.”
Which brings me to another point, although I’m loathe to even mention his name in the same post as Cal. Mark McGwire thankfully did not get in (not that many thought he would), garnishing a surprisingly high 23.5% of the ballot. I for one hope he never makes it.
