I hate to admit it, but I still watch American Idol, although I must say that this season is probably the crappiest yet. Personally, I’m extremely annoyed by media darling/pariah Sanjaya, so I read the Salon article discussing the “subversiveness” of voting to keep him around with some interest…

Yahoo! reports that the United States Postal Service will unveil a Star Wars stamp set on May 25th as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the release of Star Wars. In case you can’t tell from the picture above, individual stamps include:

• Han Solo and Chewbacca
• Anakin Skywalker fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi

While on the topic of J.R.R. Tolkien, I figured I’d mention the site Council of Elrond, “one of the largest resource sites on the web offering a variety of unique features based on the creative works of J.R.R. Tolkien.”

The Independent reports that Christopher Tolkien has completed the widely anticipated Children Of Húrin, completing his father J.R.R. Tolkien’s work. Chris Crawshaw, chairman of the Tolkien Society, characterizes the work:

Tolkien saw his work as one long history of Middle Earth: from the beginning of creation to the end of the Third Age. The Children of Húrin is an early chapter in that bigger story.

I’m really looking forward to this latest Middle Earth tome, which is scheduled for release on April 17th; I’ve already preordered mine from amazon.com.
