There’s More Than One Way to Map an Election
“Electoral maps have been around since the 1800s. Maybe it’s time to try something new. ” – My Comments : It’s about that time again. Geographically correct “Red and Blue” electoral maps generally fail to visually convey the vitally important fact that regions with higher population density wield more electoral votes. This notion isn’t revelatory by any means, but it would be nice to hear it addressed by pundits more often. Unfortunately, as the article points out, the standard paradigm isn’t likely to change any time soon.
I’ll refrain from any pithy, cynical statements on the lamentable state of American geographic knowledge that prevents a more accurate model from being embraced. Oops, too late. :-p
