FAA approves iPads in the cockpit?
American Airlines recently conducted successful tests of iPads loaded with electronic charts. ZDNet writes that the FAA will now likely grant full approval for airlines to make use of iPads as replacements for paper books, charts, and other documents. According to Seattle Pi, “a 1.5 pound iPad replaces about 35 pounds of paper saving an estimated $1.2 million worth of fuel per year."
This is pretty cool news, as I’m sure these savings will immediately be passed on to customers. Oh, and <Insert obligatory comment about the requirement to turn off electronic devices on airliners.> :-p
